Our football Club

Our History

In 1889 the North Eastern Railway Company (York’s biggest employer) founded the Railway Institute as a social and recreational club for employees. In 1912 RI purchased the New Lane site and in 1929, post-war, York RI Football Club was founded. Along with other sports including rugby, boxing and bowls.

The football club has thrived since then and had many successful years in Mens, Ladies and Junior football. Its history makes it one of the oldest clubs in York and its history can be explored by clicking below.
